This review covers two incidents: Bootle on 22 September and Harefield on 29 September. Selection was based on available statements from the responsible fire services.
Two different settings
Bootle: a home fire with a confirmed scooter-battery cause. Harefield: mixed waste with battery involvement, but no detailed ignition mechanism established in the statement.
Method
Each incident is counted once. The October Bootle update supplements a September event. The archived June incident in Colindale is excluded from this review.
What these data cannot show
Two cases cannot establish individual risk, a monthly trend or a ranking of countries. Poland’s absence from this selection does not mean that no fires occurred in Poland.
Questions for a site review
- Does the device inventory include portable equipment?
- Is responsibility for battery-containing waste defined?
- Does reporting distinguish facts from suspected causes?
